Home Office Inspiration: Neutral Mid-Century Modern by Alice Maughan

This week's home office design is a little different, as we've teamed up with my lovely friend Alice Maughan (@alicemaughaninteriors), queen of a Mid-Century Modern twist, to bring you a gorgeous neutral Mid-Century Modern office moodboard.

Mid-Century Modern furniture has been popular for quite some time (since the mid-century some might say!), with the slim angled legs and simple, yet functional design. Shops like West Elm, Made and Swoon Editions provide a wonderful selection of pieces, and we particularly love their more contemporary take on some classic mid-century patterns, shapes and colour palette.

A Mid-Century Modern design scheme like this would suit a variety of different personalities, neutral-lovers of course, with an eye for vintage cool and function. You wouldn't find much clutter out on display in this office, and in your free time you might enjoy watching Mad Men or visiting trendy art museums (when we're allowed back out again!). This is also a great option if you share your work space with a spouse, as it's pretty gender neutral and creates a calming yet focused sort of atmosphere.

A NEUTRAL MID-CENTURY MODERN HOME OFFICE

Alice has opted for a neutral scheme with pops of a muted olive & forest greens (not quite as bright as the shades of green in the mid-century era) and black accents to anchor everything. There are also a few pops of blue in the rug, and some grey tones which compliments the architectural artwork.

Having a mix of metals (chrome, brass and black) and dark wood tones are both common for the mid-century style. And the familiar mid-century patterns such as curved and angular shapes, come through in the artwork, lighting, vase and sputnik ornaments.

Here are all the links to everything on the mood board:

Alice & I run Interior Design workshops in the Midlands (@myhomestyleseries), but due to the current situation, they have all been put on hold. We cover how to find your design style (including Mid-Century Modern, Alice's favourite!), how to plan your space, how to use colour in your home and also how to style those finishing touches to pull everything together. We are hoping to reschedule a couple of workshops before the end of the year so stay tuned for more details on those!

A big thank you to Alice for creating this gorgeous design, we absolutely love it! Becca & I are working on your next inspiration mood board as we speak, and it's set to be a good'n!

Have a lovely day & thanks so much for reading x
